FAQs

  • Q: Are we required to modify our existing media materials to match the templates or examples on this site?
  • A: No. The materials on this site are designed to be a guide; to provide examples of past materials in order to make your job easier. We hope the Open HOT PR Toolkit will help spark creative ideas specific to your property.
  • Q: Why are there are sample news releases for a different brand in the section of the toolkit dedicated to my brand?
  • A: In creating this site, strong examples of each type of news release or other press document were not available for every brand. We felt it would be better to include a sample release from another brand (i.e., Sheraton), than not have any example for you to reference. In time, we plan to include more brand-specific materials. If you have possible good examples that we might include on this site, please send them to Brad.Minor@starwoodhotels.com.
  • Q: What are the main differences between the sections for new build properties and transition properties?
  • A: The transition properties section doesn't include modules for announcing an initial deal, groundbreaking and most ramp-up elements. Transitions typically happen much faster than new-build properties, with less time to plan for future events.
  • Q: Can I give non-Starwood or non-hotel employees, like our PR agency, access to this material?
  • A: Yes, we intended for PR and ad agency representatives to access these materials. However, almost everything included on this site is proprietary to Starwood. So, please help ensure that the information is carefully disseminated and not made available to competitors or even non-competitive, non-Starwood businesses.
  • Q: Do I need this toolkit if I have hired a local PR agency? Shouldn't the agency know how to do all of these tasks without referencing this site?
  • A: This kit is a valuable resource for you and your PR agency, especially if it's a new relationship and the agency has not previously worked with a Starwood property. You definitely want to draw upon the creativity and talents of your agency. The materials here are a guideline; a tool to move tasks along faster for those that need it. For others who don't have all the resources they would like, this site can provide a step-by-step guide to assist them in meeting their Open HOT goals.
